This Page in Loving Memory of
Shirley Marie Bacon
Coronado High School Class of 1967

1949-1999

January 4, 2003

I have put off writing this for at least a year now. What does one say about their sister who died way too young on life? I miss her. YOU BET. I think of her all the time. YEA. Words seems so trite when trying to describe such intense memories and feelings, but I'll try!

Shirley was like a second mom to me as she was 14 years my senior. My mother was 40 when she had me and way to busy with her 6 other kids to provide much one on one attention. I got attention from Shirley. I think she resented it at first...having me to care for...but we grew to have a beautiful relationship. She got married when I was six and she and her husband Mark were there to celebrate and cheer on EVERY major (and minor) event I had in my life. She did what most great sisters do... we celebrated big for my 13th,16th and 18th birthdays. She turned me on to good music (gave me my first Joni Mitchell LP) as well as influenced me in my clothing style. Her tapestry clogs are on my living room shelf and they bring back fun memories of hanging out with her when she lived on Mill Ave. Shirley had style and lots of it. She was also my role model for going to college.

One of the greatest gifts she gave to me was her children Derek, Zacary, Austin and her adopted daughter Katie. Austin and Katie were on the other side to guide her over, but Derek and Zac still bless this earth. I cherish my relationship with my nephews and will forever be grateful to Shirl for bringing them into my life.

Shirl was married to Mark Philp for over 30 years. Mark was and still is like a brother to me. He's had far too much pain in his life that one man should have to bare. Thank you Mark for loving my sister the way you did for those 30 years. I love you for it.

God Bless you sis
I love you and miss you madly
...until we meet again.
